Triumph! At last! I finally got my mom's furs up on ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!! She passed almost six years ago, and I have kept her furs in my closet because I didn't have the heart to give them to Goodwill (she would not have liked that, at all!) But what shenanigans this project has been ... first find a model -- my neighbor growing up is back at her parents for a year (they normally live in Israel) and she's gorgeous, tall, dark, and most importantly willing! Her daughter takes dance class near my house every Monday, so Val comes over and we chat and I try to make her a decent cup of coffee ... I'm not great at coffee since I don't drink the stuff. Anyway, one afternoon she came wearing fishnet stockings and a little black number, which went perfectly under all the fur coats and hats. Check her out ...
Then I had to find out what kind of fur they were since I needed to describe them on ebay. So, after much research and no luck finding a fur shop in San Francisco, I did find a fur cleaners in the financial district. I parked in a yellow zone thinking I'd just be up there a few minutes, but when I got to the fourth floor I found a kind man and a sad woman --her father has just died in China the night before. I said I'd come back, but they wanted me to stay and wanted to help which they did, but I didn't feel like I could rush in and rush out under the circumstances. I understand, and I hugger her, and we talked a bit about him. Life ... And I got a $70 parking ticket! Then I took a few days to write about each item, and measure all the dimensions (had to do some research on the proper way to measure sleeves and such). Then fidget with the photos in Photoshop. Then research on ebay what similar items are selling for. Then when I was all ready to upload, finally, after years, I realized that people weren't going to like the MUSTY smell emanating from each and every item. So, more research to find out how to remove must. Borrowed some white vinegar from my kind neighbor Joan, put the vinegar in a bowl in the closet with all the furs, and closed the doors for a few days. Then changed the vinegar and left them in there for a few more days. Then hung all the pieces out in the sun one day. My neighbors in the back must really wonder about me sometimes ...
Then, finally, today, it happened. The heavens parted, the angels sang, and all of my mom's furs are posted on ebay, and after a few hours there are no bids yet but a few are being "watched" which I think is a good thing. Just in time for Christmas! All you East-Coasters, come one down and buy a fur coat!
